You mentioned something that I think is really important here. The amount of time you spend with a patient. Because my personal experience and with a number of different chiropractors over the many decades, and from what I’ve talked to with other friends of mine who were patients, of course, of chiropractors, that’s a significant amount of time that you spend with your patients versus other chiropractors. You said five to seven minutes. I mean, that’s like a McDonald’s. Let’s run ’em in and run ’em out.
It doesn’t make any sense to me if you’re looking to improve your health to not have a service provider give you as much complete information and look your situation over. So why did this goes back to your philosophy? Why did you choose that? Yeah, you’re going to spend 15 minutes or so, you know, with each patient.
Ken Frederick – Chiropractor – Port Orchard, Washington
Well, first of all, I want I want to treat these people the way I want to be treated. And I need to know if I’m actually helping them. I don’t want them to waste their time, their money to see me if I’m not helping them. So, when I ask them, how did you do since I saw you last, by the time they tell me, 5 minutes is up. And that takes care of your treatment time.
So, it’s, again, it’s my philosophy. Those chiropractors that do the five- or seven-minute treatment time, that’s their philosophy that they believe that they can deliver the utmost in care in that time frame. My philosophy says, I don’t think I can do that. So, I prefer to do the 15 minutes. I’ve been told many times, well, doctor, how many patients do you see in an hour? And I say, well, I see four. And they say, well, what if you saw 12? That’s one every 5 minutes. Do you realize that you would be tripling or quadrupling the money you make.
And again, my old philosophy says I don’t believe that I can deliver the best in care in that kind of time frame. And truthfully, I was never in this profession for the money. Many chiropractors do every better than I do, but that’s okay. In the end, I love what I do. They say that if you love what you do, it’s not a job, right? And being in my office is one of my happy places. It’s where I come alive. It’s where I believe I was meant to be. So ultimately, that’s what makes me happy at the end of the day, is trying to help people get better.
